These include the elements and principles of art. Students will be using a variety of media/ learning to work independently and in groups. Student artworks are displayed in the community throughout the year.

    Class News and Events...

Welcome to our fourth six weeks for the fall 2012-2013 school year.  We continue to learn more about the elements and principles of art, famous artists, techniques/ materials and art history.   Students concentrated on shapes and balance during the second six weeks and some classes are just finishing up these assignments. Kindergarten and 1st grade students learned about geometric and free-form or organic shapes and made drawings using these kinds of shapes.  2nd and 3rd grade students are currently working on drawings for the James Wood Autopark holiday contest.  4th and 5th grade art students also completed artwork for the local Adopt-A-School contest and winners will be announced soon.  These contest participants are demonstrating their ability to communicate ideas about themselves, their school and or community using life experiences and life knowledge.  4th grade students are in the process of creating their own 3-d paper mache masks.   These masks will be decorated using the elements (line, shape, color, texture) to show rhythm and movement.  4th grade art club made clay bowls and donated to the Empty Bowl Project to raise money for the local food pantry.  5th grade art club students are making artwork to decorate the stage/cafeteria for the upcoming Veteran's Program.   Several classes have also begun their 3-D clay form projects for the year.  These will be great surprises!

    This Week's Class Assignments

Kindergarten begins the school year learning about line. During our first week we sing a line song and create a landscape using the different lines we have learned about.

First Grade - Fifth Grade are all currently working on this years yearbook cover contest entries. Our theme this year is "The Journey is the Reward". Students are asked to visually interpret the meaning of this phrase by visually expressing their feelings about their self, their school and their community.
