Welcome to the Guidance Center
-
The Guidance Center at Independence High School is a resource center designed for students to obtain information regarding post high school planning. Whether the student is planning for university, community college, the military service or a technical/trade school the Guidance Center offers information on:
- Scholarships
- Financial Aid (FAFSA)
- Vocational Training
- ACT/SAT Information
- Career Inventories
- Applying for jobs/interview techniques
- Volunteer/community service opportunities
In addition to these services, we also provide college bound students with the opportunity to meet with university and college representatives to discuss the admissions process.Students (especially juniors & seniors) are highly encouraged to sign up for these presentations. Sign up sheets are located in the Guidance Center and the presentations are typically scheduled during 2nd or 3rd hour. Passes are sent out to those students that have signed up for a particular school presentation.
The Guidance Center advertises college visits and scholarship opportunities via eAlert, school website, daily announcements, and bulletins issued by our department.
If you have any questions you can contact Cindi Nixon, Guidance Center Counselor at 814.272.7227 or email her at cindi.nixon@lakeparksd.com.
